Winter is seemingly around the corner, we’ve been hit pretty hard with cold winds and low temperatures but that’s not to stop us from camping outdoors! It’s usually cold as soon as the sun sets then freezing again when you wake up in the morning. This blog post provides you with clever camping tips for winter so if you plan on tackling the cold weather, be sure to read on!
Ensure you’re investing in a good quality, thick and camping proof sleeping bag – whether you’re camping in summer or winter, this is a top priority. Don’t be afraid to go over the top – the warmer you are, the better you’ll feel. Bring a thick blanket you know you can count on when the cold hits, don’t bring multiple blankets as this will not only take up space, it’ll only leave you entangled when you wake up amongst 4 different blankets.
Hot water bottles
These things will become your best friend over the winter whether you’re camping or simply sleeping in bed. Fill a few of these up with hot water and slip them at the bottom of the sleeping bag by your feet and one at the top to warm your body. Be sure to invest in a good quality one to avoid any dangerous leakage that can cause severe burns.
It’s a known fact that going on a fast paced walk or simply jumping up and down a little bit will allow your body to work up a sweat, warming up your body right before you hit the hay. Do this before you go to bed and you’ll be feeling warmer before you know it.
Eat warming foods
Soups and porridges are the way to go when it comes to warm food. Have this for dinner with a hot chocolate and you’ll be sleeping like a baby in no time. Having warming foods before bedtime will help keep your insides warm and will be used as fuel for your body as you rest.
Wear as many layers as you can whilst still staying comfortable. Put on those thick woolly socks, track pants, long sleeve tops with a thick jumper. Slap on a beanie as well if you can! Keeping your head and feet warm are the most important so as long as these are warm, you’ll be able to stay warm!
